Band’s Biography

Bodycall was formed in 2002 in Wroclaw, Poland, by underground musicians who assumed nicknames of Andie and Voy. By that time, both had significant musical experience behind them, as they had been providing sonic devastation and disseminating morbidity for some good 10 years in the underground scene.

Andie had previously played guitar in several metal bands and been a hardcore techno DJ and producer, while Voy had done vocals in various death/thrash metal and punk/hc crews. Notably, both had cooperated with each other before, bringing mayhem to the world through other musical projects , e.g., a grindcore formation by the name of Extorted Vomit (samples in the player on the right, scroll the playlist down to “Andie and Voy play grindcore)”.

All those inspirations, and some others too, which, for your safety, better remain unnamed, contributed to Bodycall’s debut material, an 11 track demo entitled “Somatic Turn,” released in 2003. Musically, the release was diverse, ranging from harsh dark electro songs, such as “Beyond Control,” to self-ironic 80’s synthpop pastiches (“On and On”), but with strong emphasis unchangingly put on catchiness and strong beat.

Due to external factors (band members emigrating), Bodycall went on hiatus in 2004. However, thanks to Andie’s efforts now it’s back and regularily releases new music. Newest Bodycall’s release is planned for March 2010, so stay tuned, as it is going to be available as mp3 and FLAC download.

Currently Bodycall band members are based in Ireland.

Our Style

It does not make much sense to talk about music, when you can listen yourself and form your own opinion, but we are going to say a couple of words just to provide some background.

We play dark electro / aggrotech with emphasis on strong beat and relatively clean vocals. This probably is sligthly different than in many other industrial bands, as they usually tend to hide the vocals and process them in much more destructive way than we do. We just believe, that music and vocals are equally important.

We like danceable tunes ourselves and it shows in the music we create. By danceable we do not mean just the Dark Independent scene, but all the various, usually aggresive styles of club-oriented music. We like the contrast created by wistful melodies crashed against aggresive vocals and beat.

Our band name

Bodycall’s name was invented as a reference to popculture with its prefabricated, plastic saints and cult of standarized beauty.

Our lyrics

Our lyrics critically depict the pathologies of contemporary consumptionist societies (growing social divisions, the commodification of everything, oppressive body norms), expose the madness of totalitarian systems and ideologies, but also deal with the usual humorous topics reserved for the dark independent scene, such as absence, lack, entropy (you name it).

About this website

The main goal of this website is obviously to familiarize you with our music. We have, however some secondary goals. We would like to support other bands from dark electronic scene, give some advice and tips regarding band promotion. We would also like to have our voice heard on topics important for independent scene, like future of music and labels, mp3 downloads, commercialisation of music and plenty of other subjects.
